Dr. Strangelove resurrected!

Posting this brief YouTube only because it juxtaposes a scene or two from one of my favorite movies with one of my least favorite presidential candidates (of the 4, or 5 - where's Paul?, 6 - or Gravel?, 7 - Huckabee ? - still remaining in that race).

I have to confess, I think the far stronger performance of idiot in this video is stolen from an actor I considered to be at the top of his class, i.e., the late George C. Scott. But of course, he was just acting and it's always difficult to out play the real thing.

How am I supposed to sleep tonight?
This would probably explain why anti depressants & sleeping pills are amongst the top selling prescription meds in the US.

My creepy-o-meter is in the red zone.

Deja vu all over again -- here is the final scene from one of the greatest movies ever made:

Great video comparing McCain with General "Buck" Turgidson (Scott). Now, let's throw in the little girl picking at her daisy from the 1964 campaign and we've come full circle with the cowboys Goldwater and McCain from Arizona. What a great legacy for AZ.

eprof: Oh, like those vids will help poor fran to sleep better. (grin)

Thanks for the links to those. In '68, I had a neighbor in the Bay Area who was a huge Goldwater fan. He liked to rub it in that while Goldwater had lost, he was bitter because Johnson was doing exactly what Goldwater advocated doing, like he was envious and Johnson was co-opting Goldwater strategies.

Of course, I was confused. Johnson's war was bullshit and my neighbor was p*ssed because he thought Johnson was following Goldwater's plan??? I hated Johnson and his war. My neighbor - can you guess - worked for Bechtel in SF. (He's probably making in the 7 digits at least today if he stayed on.

Well, I really suspect I'm sane. That it's the world's leadership that has serious problems. If that's true...or even if the converse it true...I really--no REALLY--don't belong on this Earth.

Which is the underlying premise I set out with in this blog, i.e., Earth is no model for rational thought.

I'm back from vacation. my blog's all effed up, don't know why. the comments aren't being emailed to me. so I thought I'd see if I could post a comment elsewhere & being a big Dr S fan, this seemed a likely spot. alas, when I click on the vid, the message says it's "no longer available". I'm really batting zilch, aren't I?

well, let me just guess that if the scene involved GC Scott, it was in the war room & might've been about the doomsday machine. although eprof's mention of the daisy-picking girl makes me think it might've been about the one plane that made it through to begin the end of life on earth. either way, I'm guessing your least favorite candidate is McC?

OK, enough guessing, let's see if I can even post a comment. Life on earth, rational or other, can wait, eh?
