Dada with his editor, Sam, doing their pre-blog warm-ups. Here, trying desperately to recapture their
capacity for shock, they once more fail (miserably), continuing "Dada's" slide into a mush mishmash.
After watching CNN, C-Spans I and II, Keith Olbermann's excellent coverage of the latest BS (Britney Spears), Amy Goodman's "Democracy Now" and listening to "Air America's" informative and delightfully entertaining Rachel Maddow, recent results are always the same.capacity for shock, they once more fail (miserably), continuing "Dada's" slide into a mush mishmash.
Despite all the offensive stories about Iran trying their damnest to provoke a war with Dick Cheney, lawless Blackwater run amuck, vetoed children's health care insurance, Bush assurances "we don't torture," congress (anything "congress"), wounded military against the Iraq war being labeled "phony soldiers"--despite all of that--editor Sam and I sadly report that we've lost our ability to experience shock!
One might say we've lost our groove. Not only that, we sense our capacity for outrage is numbing as well. Outrage so vital and demanded of each of us as residents of a self-proclaimed "democracy" when hearing lies from our leaders, feeling our liberties fleeting and experiencing the effects of corruption storming down upon us, drowning our future born in the financial and moral bankruptcies of today's hubris.
As a result of this, Sam and I have decided to take a day or two off. Perhaps in the interim we'll recover our ability for shock? Or maybe not. As I suspect, when really extreme events next occur, it will be too late for shock and its ensuing outrages.
So, how 'bout a walk and then some buttered popcorn? We wonder what kind of weekend Britney had?

There seems to be so much shockingly awful news out there, as well as so much just plain unadulterated, awful non news- such Brittney's out of control! (was she ever IN control, and besides, who cares???). I sense a lot of burn out- people asked why do we bother to deal with Congress anyway, which is why I am amused with your *anything "congress"* remark. When is the last time Congress did anything- good?
I can't even remember.
Looks like you & the editor have a grip on reality.
Ain't nobody @ the golden Gate gonna quiz you on the latest OJ update, or *Brit shit*.
Nuffs enough. You may well find more depth & satisfaction taking a walk w the dog, or reading some good books.
Dada, you & Sam are exemplifying the adage of "he who has the biggest mouth wins"!
Reminds me of some Galapagos Tortoises, the ones who "fight" by raising their necks up & opening their mouths wide. Interesting adaptation: some of the smaller tortoises have developed extra long necks, so they can compete against the huge guys (who apparently are a little short in brain dept, i.e. when they see one of those long-necked little guys sticking his head up reeeeal high, they must think OMG, that guy is HUUUGE, I better not mess with him)! I suspect Bill O'R uses this tactic in his competition for airtime against Brittany.
oh, I hope your popcorn isn't the pre-buttered kind! assume you've heard about the butter spraying machine health probs?
Hey, Fran! Good to see you out & about! now ... let's see if my name comes up BLUE (thanks to enigma)
I remember the day Britney appeared with "Ellen" a few years ago and demonstrated exercises she does to keep her trim and in shape. I turned to Mrs. Dada and said, "This would mean a whole lot more if she was in her 40's or 50's" showing us this."
They say youth is wasted on the young and, worried that Britney won't even make it out of her youth (I hear she's now comparing herself with Princess Di), I'd be more than willing to go on the "Ellen" show to return Britney the favor with some hints on how to successfully transcend/survive her youth.
(Note: And while I felt badly mentioning Olbermann and Britney in the same sentence in this blog, any doubt I had about doing that was erased with more on Britney last night on Olbermann's show...of course.)
Re congress: I was just reading this morning democrats--out of fear of appearing weak on terrorism to the vast MINORITY of folks in this country who'd gladly burn their Bill of Rights and "drop-'em, bend over and spread 'em" if they thought it meant authorities might root out the terrorists hiding up their frightened asses--are likely to allow Bush to keep his eavesdropping powers extraordinaire granted him just before their August recess. No, we don't need a Hillary or Juliano...we need a revolution!
But this shows what I learned as a kid...always asking for too much or the wrong things for Christmas and always ending up disappointed.
Old age is wasted on the elderly.
oh this is a wonderful ..I love the picture...wonderful..take time off...give Lindsay time to get drunk again..and time for Bush to do something stupid...or say something to stupid...rest eat popcorn...or got for a nice walk...we will still be here..
Where's Big Dick Cheney lately???
I just read Jimmy Carter has spoken out about the US engaging in torture. I always thought Carter was more effective out of his presidency-- but I am thrilled that he is speaking the truth- the quote was "I don't think, I KNOW" (retired presidents can opt to get governmental info if they so choose). He even went as far as saying changing the definition of torture & declaring yourself not torturing does not count. Carter has an international formula for fair voting practices as well- guess what country does not meet that criteria? You were right if you guessed US of A.
I found that news most interesting... although I have no clue what's the latest with Ms, Brit.... ohmygosh! I am like out of the valley girl tabloid loop! gasp

Psychomikeo asked:
"Where's Big Dick Cheney lately???"
Well, as you may have heard tonight, Psycho, Big Dick's apparently in the gym, on the mats, wrestling with the former Chevron Oil Tanker (now known as secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice Patty) for Iran.
I think this is the first time I may have ever approved of anything the Oil Tanker has ever done as a public "servant". And, as if war with Iran wasn't enough for the Big Dick, he's also making threatening remarks towards Syria and North Korea.
As Jimmy Carter said, "Cheney is a militant who avoided military service."
As Dada says, "Cheney is a heartless son of a bitch still alive thanks to the miracle of a mechanical pacemaker...which is damaging testament against modern technology."
Technology is keeping a flippin' mad sociopath alive that may well end up killing you, me, your kids, their kids and billions of people of color around the world.
I'll never forgive modern medicine if he succeeds.
Fran: For the past 17 hours or so (since awaking this morning), I've been thinking of blogging something along the lines of exactly what you mentioned, i.e., "changing the definition of torture & declaring yourself not torturing does not count."
I guess the lesson we've learned here is the danger that lies in allowing those who rule us to also change the definitions of words that have historically held negative connotations for most of us. Like torture.
Redefining torture to mean permanent organ damage or death makes it easy for Bush to proclaim to us and his God (whom I hope really exists, to whom he speaks and to whom, hopefully, he may one day have a reckoning with), "We DO NOT torture," leaves me wondering if 3/4 of an hour of face slapping before his hour of water boarding, before being thrown into sub-freezing temps naked, might leave psychopath Bush confessing, "OK, OK, we DO torture." (Of course, as we all know, such a confession under those conditions is not admissible as truth, despite--in this one rare instance--we know it to be.)
Another prime example is redefining the cost of living index by omitting two minor categories: the cost of energy AND FOOD, like we needn't use our cars, heat/cool our homes and use energy to manufacture everyhing we drive, ride, or eat!
Unemployment is down also when thousands who are on the rolls fall off when their unemployment runs out (and they become statistically "vanished.")
But then, Bush defines the words. We, however, live them.
