Okay, okay....so my self-restraint isn't as good as I'd hoped it was. For the past day, or two, or three, I've been trying to constrain myself here from commenting on political events continuously unfolding, always with varying degrees of outrage. Be it Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig pleading guilty to (sexual) misconduct in a public restroom (yes, the same Senator Craig who opposes rights for gays, but isn't above seeking a little gay action on the side?), to Alberto Gonzales telling us how much he's enjoyed working with the members of his Justice Department who are dedicated to preserving the rights of all Americans as he, Gonzales, works to destroy them, or the president accusing those of us who opposed Gonzales, an honorable man, of being drug through mud for our own political reasons, it's endless. And I'm always, ALWAYS, amazed at the tremendous capacity we Americans have to absorb endless streams of outrage without more than mere whimpers--myself included.

Now comes news of the latest scandal involving "billions of dollars of weapons, supplies and other matériel to Iraqi and Americans" (NYTimes) that have gone unaccounted for. And while the investigation is still ongoing, would any of us be surprised if our own sons and daughters are being sighted as targets through the lethal ends of weapons we sent to Iraq to squelch the endless ongoing uprisings and insurrections they were sent there to stop?

Of course not. It's no big fucking deal, right? Except perhaps in the White House where I have deep concerns they may underestimate Americans capacity for outrage and, out of fear we could get angry and cause commotion across the nation, may try to elevate or ignite the conflict with Iran as a means to distract us from all the scandals that would outrage citizens of many other nations, yet amazingly not our own.

So don't be surprised if new revelations about Iran surface soon. Or even worse, our homeland security is threatened with mushroom clouds or something equally heinous as a means of distracting us. And it's all so unnecessary because, here, we Americans are, on the doorstep of a new season of TV, the National Football League premiere in a week, baseball playoffs in a month. Why ignite hostilities with Iran Bush? We don't even give a shit if our own kids are dying from weapons from America!

Someone, somewhere is making money off it and what could be more American than that, right?
