June '06 flashback

"They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us." Rear Adm Harry Harris, commander of Guantanamo reacting to the discovery of three detainee's successful suicides at his Gitmo camp.

I apologize for old news. It's just something I stumbled across this morning, said so seriously yet is so blatantly absurd, I thought worthy of repeating.

I particularly like Admiral Harris' "asymmetrical warfare" reference. But maybe a better example of asymmetrical warfare might be the aircraft launched rockets, missiles from ships, tanks armed with depleted uranium shells and an array of smart bombs, cluster bombs, bunker busters, white phosphorous munitions used against people with none. Ah, now that's true asymmetry! And it also illustrates quite nicely the "no regard for life" portion of his remark as well, doesn't it?

Asymmetrical warfare indeed. Great analogy. How stupid they are. Keep up the great blogs.
