I heard Don Rumsfeld said in a Washington Post column that "Turning our backs on postwar Iraq today would be the modern equivalent of handing postwar Germany back to the Nazis." Okay, two small points: The term "post-war Iraq" seems incorrectly applied to "present-war Iraq" and, secondly, we won the war with Germany. Oh, and I guess I would question his analogy by abandoning Iraq it would be like handing Germany back to the Nazis. He has NO idea, does he, who the real Nazis are.

I heard somebody praise the "Leadership" Bush & company had brought to Washington during lunch. I had to stop eating for a minute and fight back a comment because it was the wrong place for an arguement. Rumsfeld makes comments like that to support his own warped view of the world. I think most Americans see it differently. Any justification for being in Iraq is long gone, and the original reason is highly suspect. Having destroyed the country, it's now our obligation to help heal, but on Iraq's term, not ours.
As an American, and as a retired US soldier, my apologies for the sensless destruction.
to the point of the comparison with Nazi Germany, let's not forget that Germany had initiated aggression against country after country before we got involved...not to mention the start of the Holocaust (which our gov't during that time conveniently ignored and kept under wraps)...Iraq did initiate aggression against our pals-in-oil, the Kuwaitis, and I think we were somewhat justified in Bush I's retaliation, especially when he tempered our aggression with the decision not to pursue saddam's broken army back to baghdad...
