Bush speaks before the National Newspaper Association.

As you know, listening to Bush speak is like watching a 5 year old video you've seen a hundred times before. Anyway, here's a highlight of his talk yesterday as he spoke about renewable energy for America:

"Same on the electricity front. We can use wind power and electricity. These are all coming to the market because of research. They're becoming competitive forms of energy." Bushspeak from "President Bush Speaks to the National Newspaper Association"

(While this exciting news from Bush really captured my imagination, Dada cautions, "I think it's best we all curb our enthusiasm at this point because wind power and electricity are new technologies and they may not yet be quite perfected. And, besides, as with all new technologies, they're usually very expensive until widely distributed and more extensively used.")

*****************************

Bush spoke yesterday before the National Newspaper Association. I had planned to report on that after reading the transcripts of his appearance but I apologize. I couldn't make it all the way through them. Oh, I made it almost 2/3's of the way before my brow I was rubbing began to bleed. So, rather than comment on what Bush said, I'll just mention the all too familiar impression I came away with after reading some of that transcript.

Pissed! That was my overall reaction. One of my pet peeves are the media. Watching a Bush press conference or, as yesterday, an appearance before a group of newspapermen, I often get upset. See, as one reads through the transcripts, one of the things that jumps off the page at you is the "LAUGHTER" by the press that occurs repeatedly throughout.

Free press....fourth estate....whatever, as Bush addressed those guardians of the national principles they supposedly preserve and defend by asking the hard questions of people in authority, it seems they've lost their sense of purpose. One got the impression one was watching the audience at a local comedy club. Transcripts reveal "LAUGHTER" every couple of lines.

Now nothing irritates me more than a press corps being 'entertained' by the president. The relationship between the media and the government is supposed to be adversarial; one of questioning, probing, challenging. It just doesn't seem right for a president who's committed 10, 12, 14 or more impeachable offenses to be funny, to be allowed to tickle the humor bones of a corps that shouldn't be laughing, whose job it is to be nailing this guy. They should be angry as hell and challenging Bush as a result.

I've been pissed for over five years now. Bush and his fascist Fidos aren't the sole reason they've been so successful at dismantling the nation. There's been duplicity. The press has been complicit in its destruction as well by handing the president the keys to the chicken coup. Bush couldn't have done it without them.

So every so often, the newspaper boys get together and in the evening they amble down to the comedy club to unwind and rub elbows while hoisting a few drinks. Then the curtain opens and out pops the jester, George Bush. And his shtick is old and it's hackeyed. And they've all hear it before. Over and over. Bush should be bombing, but his audience "LAUGHTER"s, just as they have for the last 5 and 1/2 years. It's all so congenial and intoxicating.

With the same old shtick, Bush should be dying up there. But it is his audience who is dead. They're comfortably drunk and so they chuckle like always. And their "LAUGHTER"s legitimize an illegitimate jester and his really rotten act. And it's slowly killing the rest of us.

I had the misfortune to see a little of that Bush "appearance" while folding clothes. You're lucky you only tried to read it. I had to stop when I noticed I was bunching everything up in a knot. And he is the LAST ACT. He really was dying up there on the stage. Only his brain-dead zombie audience didn't realize it. If vaudeville was still around, he would have gotten the hook. D.K.

He looked drunk or drugged ? or presenile dementia ?
The other thing that I noted, and this has been happening at alot of Bushco little events- the room was pretty empty, and they shoved everyone up front...and he really depends on those scripted applause moments...And boy he meandered/floundered/wanderded lost and aimless through one subject after another....dangerous and incompetent Poster Child...

The Death of the Last Lost Cheerleader....( would be the name of the greek tragedy some poor soul will have to write for him...)

Updated My Blogroll ( the Coffee Counter) put some new souls up by you...enjoy...

D.K. Oh geez....U R sooo funny. Seriously, I loved your imagery of wrinkling the clean laundry, trying to unknot it, having to "re"iron it (I know, I know--that was a joke, nobody irons anymore, [do they?]).

Well, you have to learn NOT to listen to such things when folding clothes, putting bleach in the washer, measuring coffee for the brewpot, shaving, etc.

BTW, what the hell ARE you doing here (still)? Oh, I'm not complaining. Just wish I'd known sooner, I wouldn't have been quite as depressed all day. (grin)

Haha, well this packing up takes forever even without ironing. I should call it our "camping" trip (in quotes) as it's become less wilderness-oriented with the weather turning crazy. Still, we plan to hit the road tomorrow. I should have waited to even talk about it, nothing like a prolonged farewell, huh? I know, should have just got in the car & waved goodbye, but I had to check on you today for a little pick-me-up. It's still snowing hard here BTW! D.K.

e4e....did you misspeak or mistype? Maybe you meant to say srepenile dementia?

Maybe the reason the room was so empty for Bush's delivery was: after dinner, they were given the choice to stay and hear their faux president, Supreme Commander, George the Terrorizer speak, or adjourn to the bar and get really drunk?

I wish I coulda heard it instead of trying to struggle thru the transcript, which I couldn't take.

So, do you have to drive a little further to avoid the snow? I hear Califoria is no refuge. Will there be no snow where you go? Is it possible to drive THAT far? (I don't know about snow, other than to say Nona at Fishwars said they had snow on the CA coast just a few hundred feet above them, and commuting over Hwy 17 to the Bay Area...well, it had to be plowed (much like those newspaper men who had to sit thru Bush's talk yesterday).

Well, we're glad you're still here, despite almost a whole day of missing you.

Well, I kind of hesitated to mention it, what with all the warnings etc, but one of the places we are stopping is DEATH Valley where the snow will only be up in the mtns. We'll see how that goes, the window of opportunity there is pretty small. Wait another month & get heatstroke. And then that's so close to Vegas, we'll head there or lots of places in between that we like, too. Just have to get through a couple mountain passes. And with all our camping gear, if traveling is tough, we can just pull over & improvise wherever we are! Don't worry, we'll be fine. We like to do this kind of thing a few times a year. D.K.

Thanks for the enlightenment, D.K. I feel better now. Death Valley will be a balmy 76 degrees and the big advantage of being there is, you can see the conservative campers coming six miles before they get there. This will allow you to save your XM radio batteries for when they're really needed, i.e., up close!

I was just researching buying a new car thru Costco when your message came in. It'd be nice to have it for our spring trek to Taos. Have you been there? If not, you might want to consider a trip sometime to northern NM. (It's enchanted!)

Taos (sigh)... Love Georgia O'Keefe. We made it as far as Santa Fe once, Albuquerque a few times (bought a "saco de toro" in Tucumcari, sshh, but the bulls were already dead anyway). Ever been to Sedona AZ? Kind of the same "vortex" feel as I hear Taos has, only more touristy & very pricey. Still fun, though. Dogs loved all the unrestricted trails there. D.K.

This is so funny Dada did you see DK and I posted to you at the same time ? She is sooooo funny...the damn hook...yup.

( and Dada don't laugh- I still iron- I even iron my sheets- which my son says means I am "anal"....hmm, wonder where he picked up That phrase???)

( I saw the dimentia thing I did - hmm maybe it should have been penile dimentia..oh me sooooo bad)

And no be glad that you didn't hear or see the friggin speech- it was awful- 16oz of Maalox awful,,"God is spreading Forth Freedom" ( kid you not - he said that) Thank heavens I was not washing dishes- there would been glass everywhere.... ( Is that in the transcript- it was near when he talked about kids learning..geezzz)

See, enigma, if we post at the same time means we are NOT the same person, n'cest ce pas? Not to mention the 10-yrs I have on you! I looked at Kathleen's pics & still think we'll be OK. It'll all be melted by Monday, although we may get a 3-dog night (will have to adopt another one for that). D.K.

And ...I was just thinking what incredible wimps maineiac must think we are about what probably looks like a mild winter day in New England! And yes, it's still coming down. Haven't seen this much snow in decades. Better get an SUV, dada, to help with some global warming. Oh wait, erratic weather being another sign, I guess we're already there. D.K.

Dada said...

D.K. Well, we're all so fond of you here, with one exception....sometimes you talk so we can't understand you. (OK, my apologies to e4e....I'm just speaking for myself here, not necessarily you, ok?)

I mean, "saco de toro" (some kinda "bull"?) and that most beautiful "n'cest ce pas"....(what incredible romance language is THAT? Huh? Maineiac...can you help me out here?)

So...you went to Sta. Fe and managed to avoid Taos? (And, yes, we've been to Sedona...and your comparison is so very 'right on' vis a vis Taos.) But...you missed Taos??

And, yes, Sedona is absolutely beautiful, but I can't handle it, but really enjoyed visiting with some of the interesting people there...you know, like when are the aliens coming back; how do you identify the aliens among us now? Stuff like that.

e4e: Who's laughing? I STILL iron too! (When the wife tells me to, that is.)

BTW, you may be "anal" but there's something so 1920's about ironed sheets. Just feel so luxuriant. But wherever you boy picks up his psychology terminology, he's doing incredibly well. Be proud of that lad. (I think we've already gleaned from your blog you are.)

Had to laugh. D.K.'s folding clothes while Bush is speaking and they end up all knotted. Had you been doing dishes, they'd all been broken.

BTW, e4e, after your new chosen image, I refreshed my memory re that particular Venus. Her left arm is like sooo deformed but, interestingly, no one notices it. I wonder why? Because she's so beautiful and she soooo works on an aestethic level. No one notices.

Am I going to make it over to Watergate Summer tonight? Geez, I hope so. If not, I promise--tomorrow morning for sure.

Ok, quick spanish lession ... saco de toro means sack of the bull. Sack is slang for scrotum, ouch! The place we bought it from in Tucumcari is famous for using these "throw-away" parts from the local slaughterhouses. Obscene, gross, yucky, yes & more ... but strangely attractive, very LARGE purse-like pouches. We use ours to hold lots of little stuff in the car, like pens & gum & whatnot. And the shape is unmistakeable, especially since the HAIR is still on it (told you it was gross). We always get lots of comments on it. More than you wanted to know, right?

I'm sure I butchered the N'cest Ce Pas beyond comprehension. I was thinking French for Is That Not So? yes, I'm hopeless, but I try.

We'll put Taos on the list for our next cross-country trip. I know we would love it. Don't really know why we missed it last time, must have been a scheduling problem. And I'll be disappointed if Taos DOESN'T have the same alien fixation as Sedona.

STILL SNOWING & now the dogs are telling me they're willing to brave it (spoiled bed-sleepers that they are). D.K.

Dada said...

oh my gosh....still snowing?? So, you're leaving Monday now? (grin)

Gotta love your doggers. Geez, wife just had me wrapped up in 101 dalmations. Our first dog (one of the smartest persons I've ever known) was Susan, a dalmation.

Some day maybe I'll blog her. She had a vocabulary greater than mine and was able to understand words strung together. But that wasn't her best point. She was incredibly disciplined...some would call it trained, cept I didn't "train" much of anything into her. Oh, some day I'll write about it.

And Taos? Oh D.K. it's one of the places I could live sans a car. I'd really love that.

Let me say, I can sit on the veranda of our inn in Taos and the vista and the quivering tree's leaves can send me into an altered state. Of course, a glass of wine only enchances the experience.

Oh, and thanks for the translations. If we ever meet, I hope you and your husband have your sacos with you. I guess I could bear a quick look. (Obviously, we're dealing with a very interesting couple here.)

Dada is right DK you have to go to Taos at some point...Georgia O"Keefe had to have painted some orgasmic wonders there...( come on we know that she had Quite a Life in New Mexico- and it was not in NYC with stick in the mud Steiglitz, he was about as sexy as liver and onions burnt on the stove).....

( the Sandia Mountains are so beautiful...and the last time I was in Taos- many many eons ago it snowed...very beautiful- last time I was there it was less touristy then Santa Fe...but that might be different now)

Dada thank you for the Ironing comments...I just thought it was funny- my son comes in the kitchen while I was ironing the sheets" OMG, that is so Anal" he says...two days later he came and asked if I would do his...too funny...and yes I am proud of him...if I gloat too much about him- you guys can tell me to hush...but then I will probally go Tourettical on you...

Have a good trip DK...I will try to be nice to Dada while you are gone..( I am not as funny as you...)

Take care....hugs to the pups...

Anonymous said...

E4e, all that scenic beauty AND G. O'Keefe's "orgasmic wonders", too? And we don't even need the old gas-guzzler, just wine, dada? No way can THAT be resisted. Heh,heh ... Taos goes on the list of must-sees, definitely! D.K.

travel plans done in by some snow, DK?? I can't say I blame you, I hate to drive anywhere in the snow, even supposedly experienced folks up here act like total ignoramuses when they get to try out their 4WD in the stuff...sure, you can get up a head of steam in those big ol' SUVs and trucks, as long as you don't have to turn or stop...I can't imagine that people out your way with little-to-no snow driving experience could be any better...

but you aren't gong to prolong your farewell beyond tomorrow just 'cuz it's "cold", are you???

it was a beautiful late winter day in maine, today...temp in the low 50's (t-shirt weather) and mud season has started, oh boy...I tore myself away from the computer this morning to get outside and scrounge some more free stuff at the recycling center and work in a nice walk in the woods to see what the animals are up to...a flock of early arriving red-wing blackbirds flew by in the late afternoon

I only get to the American Southwest every couple of years or so to visit mon&dad&sis in AZ...I'm not much of a traveler and it's as foreign as the surface of the moon to a guy like me who's used to lots of trees...but there's a stark beauty in the deserts and the jagged, bare mountain ranges that is something to see, I'll grant you that!

so, this comment has little to do with the topic...'cept I just can't bring myself to ever watch Our Leader on TV and the idea of a "free press" is laughable when they're all owned by 5 or 6 major corporations whose business is the bottom line and who won't dare bite the republican hand that feeds them...

It sounds like you had a beautiful day in Maine. I love birds, but we have so few varieties here. Once saw a great blue heron that a local woman was treating for a gunshot wound. He was something! Laid out on his own bed, trussed up in bandages, one eye open. All because some kids decided he looked like fun to shoot. She told me he would be healed & ready to return in 30-days, that he was lucky one of the kids felt bad enough to call wildlife rescue & they got him pretty quick.

Our travel plans are still on! We're not gonna let a little snow stop us now. All I need is a good night's sleep & we're off. Yeah, the Southwest Deserts ... nature's beauty laid bare. D.K.

Maine Friend sounds like you had quite a weekend...and hmm, Dada is getting some ahem interesting new visitors...boy he does spread the honey on that doorstep and the ladies arrive...Take care you all...see ya' on the week..

Oh e4 (you don't mind if I just call you by your first name, do you, e4?):
You flatter me with that honey on the doorstep stuff.

But seriously, you don't think it could have anything to do with this musk cologne I adorn before riding the waves on my keyboard, do you?

But coming from the owner of the Enigma Bistro, that was quite flattering. TY!
