Just your daily outrages

Salon has published the latest photos aired by Australian television showing more graphic images of our treatment of detainees in Iraq by our military. (Click here to view images ). Some of the photographs were withheld by the station, being considered too extreme for public viewing.

A Pentagon spokesman, Bryan Whitman, said the release of the images “could only further inflame and possibly incite unnecessary violence in the world and would endanger our military men and women that are serving in places around the world.”

No shit, Dick Tracy! Wouldn't it have been nice if the Pentagon and Bush had thought about that before all the torture and humiliation they inflicted on the Iraqi prisoners? If they were so concerned for the safety of our soldiers, seems like they would have thought of that beforehand.

I had successfully avoided looking at these pics since the first ones were so horrible. But like a moth drawn to flame, I felt compelled to just take a peek today. Mere words fail me. Enough, enough, enough... This stain is on us all & I hang my head in shame. It's rough trade that I want no part of. And we're supposed to believe regular soldiers thought of these things in their spare time? No wonder this adm is so against an international court where they might have to face the families of these people. D.K.

Hi D.K. - Yeh, the blood's on all our hands, isn't it? I'm getting real depressed by this B.S. It's wearing me down. Is it wearing YOU down? (Sorry, silly question....) Thank God the repugs don't have consciences. It allows them to absorb endless obscenities in the name of their king and THEIR god.

The past couple of days I've come here with little desire to comment on the outrage--they are so many. I could never keep up. I have to pick and choose my little skirmishes. But I don't care so much any more. I'm thinking a more valuable use of my time might be picking weeds growing thru the cracks of the sidewalk and then sealing up those cracks afterwards. Or maybe becoming an obsessive vacuumer of the carpets every day?

I don't know....

Yes, Dada, there are days when I think we are all depressed, just overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of brazen crap being flung at us. Since I'm not a blogger (just a lurker & sometime commenter), I can't say that it wouldn't be more rewarding to vacuum carpets than to comment on the latest outrage. I do know why I read blogs such as yours is because it helps me to fill in the blanks, to understand that I'm not a crazy wildwoman (most days), to try & see what others find so distressing & weigh that against my own dissatisfaction over what we can really do about it.

Lilly at LTN had an excellent session going on 2/10/06 called "The Devil is in the Discussion" on why people blog. If you missed it, it's well worth a look. It seems the simple answer is blogging helps keep you sane. It's an outlet for all those thoughts that torment you at night.

But to feel you HAVE to blog everyday when you do have a life afterall & things that need your attention ... well, that might actually contribute to depression in the end since all those undone things can weigh heavily, too.

I would follow your blog whether you posted every day or not. Many times you have pointed out things or put things into words that helped me to sort out these dastardly bastards. But I guess you're trying to decide if it's productive for you & only you can answer that. D.K.

D.K. Then every so often it seems, there comes along a comment with a hint of support. Usually these appear at the most needed of times, i.e., those days when one is groping for a reason to go on blathering.

And so there comes yours at just the right time and I am refueled to drive on for a few more hours, a few more days. Thank you.

BTW, I did drop by Lily's LTN and read on blogging--per your suggestion. I enjoyed it, though much of it is over my head. (It's definitely a different crowd over there!)

Also, I caught her discussion on Dadaism. You KNOW I had to read that one! Besides the subject, there was that wonderful piece, "Fountain" by "R. Mutt" (Deschamps) which I had contemplated mentioning in a blog (I've yet to write) wherein I equated it with man's greater creative acheivements, like the pyramids and World Trade Center towers.

The synchronicity of that being proof that while we like to think we're all so free willed and free thinking, we're more attached to the collective unconscious than we know, I suppose.

Thanks for the encouragement (and discouragement, i.e., there is a life outside of blogosphere which one must weigh it against.)

Well here I sit another singed moth ( likeDK)...shit when does this end???...Rummy can not get hit by a truck soon enough...where are my keys dammit ?

Now about you Dada- I am going to say this, not because I am some wise nurse- I am not- I wish I were.....but wisdom won't cure the illnesses of this Kingdom...A blog is a place to vent but it does help to know that like Souls and Minds are out there- that your brain is not exploding alone...( I guess we could call that dis-encouragement-that we collectively be discouraged together- and encourage each other to express it ?)

And DK is right we would all come here everyday even if you spilled alphabet soup and the dog's waterbowl- we care about you...not just what you write...You matter....

And maybe that is What It Is All About remembering that even as we live through King George and his tyranny People Still Matter...
and the small acts of Bravery and Kindness that you find along the way....

Now you better listen because if you don't I am going to mail my godamnedmotherfucking sonofabitch jar to you so can fill it....
(yup- we can call it the Tourette's Travel Plan....and when it is is filled you can take a trip and a break from these assholes...and at this rate you might get a trip every other week!!!!)

Hang in there...we love ya'...

So here I awaken, upside down, clinging to the ceiling as the incandescence of the artificial light surrenders to the overwhelming forces of the morning sun.

Glancing down to the room below (which when hanging upside down is really glancing up, isn't it? but then, we know how upside down everything is, don't we?), I thought I spotted a cousin, a fellow moth, lying on its back, upside down on the floor beneath the lamp. "OMG, sure hope that's not anyone I know, like D.K. or e4e.

Thanks for the encouragement e4e. I just love it when the jar is filling up faster than the cost of the Iraq war as you're slinging those incredibly wonderful expletives undeleted. It seems, as you amply demonstrated herein, that by slurring 'em together, they gain in their power (the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, QED). There's a melodic poetry to it.

(Does "godamnedmotherfuckingsonofabitch" count as just one word? Just curious if that's a way of funding the foul jar on the cheap?) Anyway, I used that one in an e-mail to a friend this morning who I'm sure is musing over my new found language skills.)

BTW, it's a new day. Thanks to that fact and the wonderful encouragement offered herein, I'm starting out fresh.

But I confess, I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live in Canada, Panama, Lichtenstein where they ponder whether a new tax should build a hospital or school. Where the national psyche is not impaled on the phalluses of impotent leaders?

Dada, "Phalluses" ??? Thanks, now I finally have an acceptable word to fling at the TV. For years, whenever I have to endure one of the bastards talking on TV, at some point I just have to yell "Prick". This irritates my husband who first thinks I'm talking to him, then wonders why I can't be more creative. The other names I've come up with are much worse, so I've been sticking with "prick". And I'm indiscriminate ... this applies to the whole lot of 'em. Now I have "phallus" to fling at the TV! D.K.

Dada is feeling better- singed wings and all....DK well, well....I think we need to send you a jar too?

The New Long word is discount special- 75 cents. ( 50 on friday)....

and hmm...phallus is merely an Art term...even a medical term...no charge- go wild.

Okay D.K. that was REAL funny, i.e., the "prick"--my husband comment. I had to share it with the wife. (I KNOW she turned away to conceal the big grin she sported as a result of that.)

But it appears e4e is right. You need a jar too! And boy, was I filling my own yesterday, er, woulda been if I hadn't chosen to cut down trees in the forest while no one was there to hear'em fall.

And while e4e claims I'm all right, I couldn't blog anything yesterday. Too outraged. America--"abandon all hope, ye who enter in."

Break the law? No problem, just have YOUR congress change it, making you perfectly legal again. I guess Bush must be screwing these wimps the way they roll over for him!

Whoops, sorry....

e4e....okay, okay....phallus is an Art term? As a fine arts student (after my total disillusionment with economics), I took 9 courses of life drawing, but obviously I missed something. That is to say, in all those hours in the studio drawing all those nudes, I never once referred to those dangling participles as "Art terms".

But I suppose that sounds a lot nicer than the way D.K. refers to 'em (at the expense of her poor hubby's psyche!).

enigma4ever said...

In sculpting they will talk of the phallic curve or lines.....gee and all those hours of nudes and it never even came up....

oh, I ahem didn't mean it like um that....

I think I will stick with "prick"...I don't think I am meant for the more sophisticated words...
