Faces of the New America, 2009

The New America, 2009

Out of work, out of a home, living out of a car, pictures of families such as these will become more and more common in the year ahead. I suspect a number of those experiencing such difficulties will vote for McCain next week because they fear if Obama gets elected it will mean higher taxes; and, of course, Obama will redistribute their wealth.

omg, Dada, I've seen people regularly this summer in exactly this situation. It is happening now. I'll stop writing now before I let out with some very bad language.

B.E. - Sorry you ended your comment so soon. Bad language is always welcome at Dada's. (enigma even has a foul-mouth jar you can contribute to, doesn't cost much/word, and makes you feel so much better)

Enigma - Thank you the "WB" and your support during my absence. I hope you make that trip to D.C. with 6'6" in January, but honestly (?), I have a lot of reservations about this election. Obviously, there is no will amongst the powers that be to fix the voting system here, which with the increased boldness of conservatives (after stealing the previous two) makes the good that of a Third World nation. The word "democracy" - American style - has become an abomination, a joke.

But what's really, really nice is, all of these disenfranchisement techniques are NOT illegal, so expect more robo calls redirecting voters to their relocated precincts in back alleys and swamps on Tuesday; too few voting machines to handle the masses in "blue" areas; voters afraid to show up at the polls where the police may be waiting for 'em; families who will lose student loans if their kid their right and casts a ballot out of state while away at school, etc. etc. The Federal Election Commission could look into it, but they've had eight years and two presidential elections to do something and look what it changed -- absolutely nothing!

But this should be interesting because Obama appears to enjoy a sizeable margin, so stealing another election should cause *the most consternation ever* amongst voters. Maybe that's why the MSM is tempering our expectations by reporting the gap narrowing, undecideds who won't vote for a black man, guarantees by McCain he'll take Florida/win the election, etc. etc.

So come Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, will we as a nation gasp in disbelief, mumble and grump wondering how McCain's victory was possible, and then resume our quiet resignation, plunging deeper into our psychological and economic depressions? I hope not. I hope it's just my ample cynicism bubbling up to the surface.

Soon we will know.

Your "ample cynicism" is well justified by past events! I've been hearing the words, "wal-mart women" bandied about lately. This scares me because words like "soccer mom" and "security mom" were used to explain the odd results of the last few elections.

I don't know if people living in cars or tents can even vote. What would their address say? What precinct do they belong to? WTH is voting so difficult in a "democracy"?
