History Smistory!

Note: The following is an exerpt from an article in Ft. Worth's Star Telegram from way last February 21st, before the Texas primary. It's old news. Or is it? I don't recall hearing about it in any national network news service or wire. (Maybe I just missed it?)

I suppose reactions by readers of this may be mixed; from shock by some to appreciation of Secret Service orders by others. But I think it important to remember that perhaps the reason this didn't really make much of a news story, if any, may be because of where it took place, i.e., in the state of Texas, in the city of Dallas, where there has never occurred a threat of real danger to any elected official because the public in Dallas is so "friendly."

DALLAS -- Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena.

The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.

Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence, head of the Police Department's homeland security and special operations divisions, said the order -- apparently made by the U.S. Secret Service -- was meant to speed up the long lines outside and fill the arena's vacant seats before Obama came on.

"Sure," said Lawrence, when asked if he was concerned by the great number of people who had gotten into the building without being checked. But, he added, the turnout of more than 17,000 people seemed to be a "friendly crowd." (Emphasis my own.)

Point of accuracy on your post.

The two main newspapers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are:

1.)Dallas Morning News
2.)Fort Worth Star Telegram

not as written: "The following is an exerpt from an article in Dallas' Star Telegram".

We, here in Fort Worth, are extremely proud of the separation of the two cities. The founder of the Star Telegram, Amon Carter, it has been said, would pack a lunch when he had to travel to Dallas so as not to have to spend as little as a dollar in the city of Dallas.

H.D. - Wow -- thank you so much for this correction. Throwing this together rather quickly, I made an erroneous assumption. My apologies to the good people of Ft. Worth and you, especially, for setting me straight!

My very next act shall now be to correct my errant ways. TY again!

p.s. - Correction made, but I am left wondering how long this "Dallas Star Telegram" error might have gone undetected had it not been for someone from Ft. Worth reading this. (Someone who apparently shares my opinion of Dallas.)

no problem Dada. :) I just did not want your error to stand up for the the millennium or as long as Blogger lasts then have Google take over its archive. I actually don't hate Dallas, but mi esposa dice, "I don't do Dallas". I apologize if my reply sounded harsh or angry. I am after all listening to the Senators ask questions of the General.

I did hear about this when it happened, not on MSM of course, but on blogs. Good thing it was a "friendly crowd", huh.

HD's esposa will appreciate that D.K. does not "do Dallas" either ... well, except for one time many years ago on a business trip ... in the middle of summer & our car's A/C stopped working, just stopped! Took it to a Dallas car repair shop & was told it'll be fine when you leave tomorrow. He was right!

Off Topic: you are a Progressive Blogger, Dada! When you break from enduring the Petraeus Root Canal, stop by my blog & get your award. I know, I know, awards, schmawards, but still it's da truff.

Hi Dada,

I noticed today that you had made the change to Fort Worth's Star Telegram but I now see that something has made the original Dallas's Star Telegram is back. Weird!

OK, I think I know how that happened. I had the posting area of the blog open on both PC and the Mac. The Mac had the old uncorrected version (the orig.), the PC the revised. But then I made an edit on the Mac w/o changing the Dallas to Ft. Worth....blah, blah, blah....(grin)

I think it's fixed now and thanks again for bringing it to my attention!

If I recall correctly, Dallas did not work out well for Kennedy. WTF on the security front?

Hillary visited my hometown last weekend & a friend reported there was a circus of an elaborate motorcade on the freeway-- police escort, lots of black tinted window, gas guzzling vehicles- on both sides of the freeway. She was just trying to run an errand. Doh! Get your damned motorcade out of my way!

The crowd looked friendly??-- was that ***gun friendly***?

As I go to the airport on Saturday, I will be hearing pre recorded Homeland security messages about terrorists & the color code of the day (as if anyone knows what that means- like we memorized the color coded terrorism chart- all I know it is has never gone intothe blue range, because fear must be kept alive!) broadcast throughout the airport.
We will be told to be vigilant & report suspicious activity. Because I have a titanium knee, I will be sent to area B for a pat down & wand scan as I am required to stand in the daVinci pose- legs spread, arms out & palms up.
Good morning America!

I decided I must brush up on my terrorism threat chart color codes- Blue (which it has never been since the chart was invented)
Blue=Guarded- a general risk of terrorist attacks.
Green= Low- a low risk of terrorist attacks.

They missed out on the full spectrum of the terrorist rainbow- Indigo= Mellow- Just an occasional terrorist here & there, not to worry everyone will have phones tapped to maintain your freedom.

Violet= No worries- Homeland security has this thing under control.Have a nice day!

I hope the Obama camp put Dallas on the *NO CALL* list.... as in not to go there again.

when Senator Clinton was here over in Dallas campaigning, one of the motorcycle officers escorting the convoy made a bad mistake, missed a turn and crashed into a retaining wall. Unfortunately, it killed him. Presidents and Candidates don't do well in Dallas or so it seems.
