Whoa! It's been quite a day. Beginning with an assassination (not totally unexpected), to the USA Today "Man of the Year" - "Woman of the Year" awards of Bush and Hillary (totally unexpected).
As a result, I found me excusing myself this afternoon as I took leave for a nearby sporting goods store. Once there, I immediately sought out the camping section. I guess an observant clerk saw I was having difficulty locating what I was looking for and finally asked, "May I help you?"
When I asked if they had any tents, he responded, "Sure, we have a number of 'em," I then refined my question by asking, "No, do you have any on display?"
Apologizing, he said "No," then mumbled about the floor space required to show them.
That's when I thanked him and left. What I was really looking for was a fully assembled tent. That's because I am seriously considering taking mine down.

I think I've discovered a good place to set up a new tent, Dada. Corsica, that mediterranean island technically belonging to France! I have my reasons. I'll do a post on it this weekend. And yes, unsettling whacko world is the impetus, the news of the day just being one of the final straws. The thought of seriously being able to move our tents is giving me a boost on an otherwise gloomy day.
Oh yes, those bitter winds you mentioned below! I want palm trees and sunshine. I want culture within reach. I want peace and love, health, lives filled with wonder & respect for all. I do not want guns, greed and insanity. Santa apparently thought that was too much to ask for this year & I'm running out of years.
okay ..what does that mean? you are not taking this tent down are you???? please tell me you aren't .....it would make all of us soooo sad...so sad...
now I do know about putting up a tent...when my son was little and down and wanted an escape we used to set a little dome tent up in his room...it became a lovely place to go sneak for cookies and a cool drink....even when he was asleep...
hang in there...we will get through this...
see DK and I are both here givng you love at the same time....hugs and grumpiness...we share it all..
Oh Enigma remind me about setting up tents in childhood. We didn't own a real tent, so my sibs & I hung up some blankets in the fam rm. We strung a rope across the room & started hanging & propping up blankets, building a series of grottos. We ended up with a little palace inside, eating meals in there & reading by flashlight & napping too, but it was missing something. That's when we drug the TV in there! Wow, an amazing little private universe, too cramped for adults. I think we were allowed to keep it up for a couple days before dismantling. The parents were probably afraid we'd set up a porta-potty in there next. Hiding from the world was fun while it lasted.
Dada, I think I misunderstood. Maybe you are considering taking THIS tent down (not just moving or refocusing your tent or tenets)??? nooooo ....
Hey, who would we be able to read each day for a reasonable and rationale rant. Maybe the allegory is meant to be you're considering a new platform other than blogger.com.
Saw Charlie Wilson's war today. It's definitely not a comedy and the moral of the story is from the Zen Master, "we shall see" over the unfolding of events. The continuation of tragedy and suffering in Afghanistan is there for all to see in the events of 1980-1989 with the rise of the Taliban and bin Laden who we supplied with weapons and trained to combat first the Russians and now Americans. This film was especially poignant if you also saw the fall film, Lions for Lambs.
Time for a new tent?
Thank you all for the encouragement, the love...
I think I (as well as some of you) recognize by now the sentiments expressed here in the form of my "breaking camp" metaphor are regular recurrences of the weariness at the seeming frustrations and hopelessness I feel for my species. I apologize for expressing it aloud.
I wouldn't dismantle the tent. More likely, I'd leave it up to stand the ravages of the elements.
But I am thinking I need to shift focus (as said several times before) or, with the New Year just around the corner, maybe take a small break from it all.
More inclined toward pessimism than not, I think 2008 promises to be far more exciting than '07, so I wouldn't want to miss that. But I desperately need to get away for a bit. We'll see what these last days of 2007 have me decide.
Thank you all for the love!
whew! glad to hear it. I was getting ready to be bereft. A New Year's break sounds nice, but what with the fast'n'furious primaries ganging up for Jan/Feb, our futures may be being decided very quickly. Your pessimism will be needed, along with lots of maalox. But I do understand the need to shift focus. It comes clear to me every time I put on my glasses.
D.K. with the primaries occurring earlier, thus causing the primary campaigns to be jump started well over a year before the election, politics may be the very thing that most impacts our lives, but the very thing I am so freakin' sick and tired of.
It is now possible to know the major party candidates so far in advance of the election the electorate will be totally sick and tired of either of 'em before next November. And knowing the weaknesses of both, the dirt under their rugs, we Americans may be wishing we could have new primaries, new candidates, by next September. But too late, the next open door for a new government won't be until 2012.
But, oh silly me, I forget, by then we'll probably begin the campaigns, then primaries for the next prez in
in 2010, won't we?
Climbing in bed with these bastards earlier and earlier doesn't leave much to anticipate when the wedding finally occurs, does it?
Oh~ I get it you are talking about the circus tent of the political arena & all of the muck that abounds. Who can blame you for not wanting to hear all about how to clean up after the elephant, only to be deluged with more of the same from talking heads for a year. The political campaigns cost so much.... entire African villages could be fed, vaccinated, and educated for a fraction of the money the politicos blow on elections. I could see where being a hermit would be very appealing in 2008. But alas, you would miss out on the humor, as there are bound to be some classic moments.
Hey even if you can't take it anymore, we love to read about your travel adventures.
I know the government is so screwed up, it's not even funny, and as dk says.... you might need to buy that Maalox by the gallon to get through it.
Even then, we'd be joining you for shooters of antacid in solidarity.
To Fran who said: "entire African villages could be fed, vaccinated," etc.
You would feel instantly better if you stop thinking like a humanitarian and start thinking/behaving like a "human." (Are words like humanitarian, humane, etc. the bastard children of their parent word human?)
eprof2: It's not that I don't trust your taste in movies. I was just waiting for a consensus (of at least two) before considering "Charlie Wilson's War".
So, OK, I received a second unsolicited recommendation of it Saturday. It's now on our list of movies to partake very soon. Thanks!
hmmmm Maalox by the gallon, I actually have Lemon Creme Mylanta....and I keep it in the Frig- and then I can do shooters during Bush speeches...it is lovely..
History Channel has a whole special about Charlie's War...it was very interesting ( he seemed kind of boring actually)
Happy New Year to you the the Mrs Dada and your Wonder Dog...
Thanks enigma....Happy New Year back at ya! (And go easy tonight on those Creme Mylanta shooters -- I know you will -- you need to save 'em for those Bushspeak fiascos.)
To everyone, a very Happy New Year!
I am going to keep burning the humanitarian flame, despite the uphill struggle of it. Giving up would not make me feel better. I suspect the reason you feel so sick of it all is that humanitarian in your heart.
That bein said-- Happy New Year to the Dada Clan. May Peace Prevail!
