How dry I am.

Anyone buying bottled water to bathe?

That's why champagne was invented.

d.k. I like your style. but here in Aust water awareness has always been a concern which is becoming more of a worry.
We had some good late winter/early spring rain. Now our increased water supplies are tainted by algae and gut bugs.
But the sad part is that our vintners are really suffering from drought conditions.
Personally I'd prefer they saved the robust red varieties rather than the chardonnays for champers or fruit wine.
(Testing word count now)
It is easy, here on the other side of the world, to forget that at certain latitudes other countries suffer the same rainfall (or lack of) dynamics.
I was really pissed off in BC when no one really cared about wasting water. Well they do seem to have lots.
But even there the ground water is slowly becoming polluted and the snow reservoirs have been reducing dramatically over recent years.
Maybe we all should grow up relying on a 1000 gal rain tank and creek water for washing. It sure raises the hackles when a tap is left running unattended.

well this is grim...hmmm bathing in champagne....that would be tinkling...I guess down under they learned how to conserve and treasure their water...maybe we need to learn a thing or two ?

Enigma, when will that pipeline from the Great Lakes get down here? You know it's coming. We will suck them dry, or die trying.

Cartledge is right, if we all had to make do with those rain barrels, it'd become 2nd nature. Drought measures have been in place in Nevada & Utah for the last couple yrs. Yes, we do have Water Police & you better not be caught outside turning on your garden hose during certain hours or days. In So-Cal, water control was implemented by raising the water rates so high, people were forced by necessity to reduce water consumption. Aaah, but there you can still see the gated communities rainbirding their lawns on a windy day because heaven forbid, their lawns might have a few brown spots. Fie!

I was surprised to see on Dada's Chart how bad the some of the southern states are affected right now.

Brutal.

But as long as Republicans still think Global Warming is a myth, everything will be ok.

How long with people continue to vote against their best interests?

Did somebody say something about *An Inconvenient Truth* ?

Well, in a desperate attempt to find something on the tele last night, I happened across a CNN program about a global energy crisis in October 2009.

I missed the beginning, but apparently it was precipitated by a terrorist attack acting in synergy with a few other things...hurricane disrupting all oil production/refining along the Gulf Coast (? I'm not sure)...as oil rises to $120 bbl.

It was infused with current problems and attempts at solutions. Wish I had caught it sooner. (I thought CNN used kid gloves on politicians, of course.)

But tomorrow evening (Tues., 10/23) CNN begins a two night series entitled, Planet in Peril, in case anyone's interested in catching more glimpses of our downward spiraling future.

(Yeh, yeh, I know, I was just being overly pessimistic there to pique curiosity. Staph, plaque anyone? I confess, living in the middle of a mass extinction can be pretty exciting at times.)

deke: Leave poor enigma's water alone. I think this attitude reflects your Southern Cal. roots. Maybe instead of expecting them to "voluntarily" share it with you like Bishop, CA and Northern CA does with So. Cal., states should train their own armies to go seize it?

~ Da (envisioning Utah invading Ohio. Oh, and don't take my accusation too personally Deke for I, too, enjoyed that piped in water whilst living in SoCal.)

seeing what's going on with the big wildfire in san diego now, I'm sure Enigma wouldn't mind sharing her water. wow, this is amazing conflation of fires. all in our old stomping grounds. the one thing we learned was to be ready to leave, leave when asked, just get out of the way of these things. and now it's flared up near The Wild Animal Park, what're they going to do with all those animals, it's not easy to evac lions & giraffes, etc. If I was down there, that's where I'd volunteer. no one's said anything yet about one of fires being near where blackwater is trying to open up a west coast training center in Portrero. yikes!

Here's PBS updates about evacs, scroll down to the fire map:

wow dada - i am wondering though - how dry where i live actually is?? as we got so much rain this year that...well...it brought up our underground water table...

but i do get pissed at all the builders - not even taking into consideration if the houses they build will have enough water to come out of the faucets in the near future..pisses me off...
