When polite political discourse in the halls of Congress countenances torture, murder, theft of resources, and ongoing occupation, we think that rudeness is the correct response. If it's embarrassing for women to shout out, "War criminal" at war criminals in expensive suits and military uniforms, then we are all for embarrassing ourselves. ~Code Pink statement re their general Patreaus Iraq assessment hearing interruptions in congress, Sept. 10, 2007.
~~~~~~
After enduring hours of unfettered congressional testimony of extreme questionable integrity by David Patraeus, a general with more brass on his uniform than an ASARCO refinery and ribbons on his chest than hair, a few brave Code Pink women countered his "truth" with a little of their own.
They were promptly removed from the gallery as democratic chair, representative Ike Skelton, of the Armed Services Committee reminded the ladies speaking truth to lies would be punished according to the law under section blah, blah, etc.
No need for me to address this hearing other than to say we knew what to expect and we got it.
Bottom line is: Over a thousand more US troops will die needlessly over the next sixteen months under their leadership's lies. How discomforting it must be for our men and women to confront the possibility of being suddenly extinguished by irate Iraqis while getting the shit kicked out of them daily back home by an American government using them as political footballs.
~~~~~~
The dream is over now. Reality-based moral hazard is returning (literally) with a vengeance. Right and wrong are going to matter again and a lot of people who put these things aside for a while are going to suffer. ~James Howard Kunstler

Is it a coincidence that the Congressional hearing on the Iraq war just also happens to fall on the 9-11 anniversary? Let's keep that reminder of fear & terror going.... it's all they've got now, really.
I was in the airport in Chicago after the V. Tech shootings. they were announcing the Terror Alert was at "Code Orange", in this major International airport. I remember standing there, listening, thinking, What the hell does that mean anyway?
Lots of people had their *bullshit-o-meters* registering in the red zone for the Petraeus song & dance. They could have just condensed it down to
*SEND MORE MONEY/NEED MORE TIME*.
Congress has the power of the purse. They can refuse to even debate about more money for more war. Got Checks & Balances? Maybe the next big peace movement push should be to send Instructions to Congress on how the Check & Balance system is supposed to work. They have failed to do so in so long a time, they may have forgotten?

The Code Pink Ladies were a highlight for me! Also Adam Kokesh (IVAW) was escorted out while congress hunted up some working microphones & as far as I could see, he was just sitting there (aww, but you know a former marine sargeant who goes around putting up protest signs in DC can't be allowed in the same rm as our bionic Petty General). And WHAT was that mysterious DC Section 10503.16 that Rep Skelton indicated protestors would be prosecuted under? Google sent me to some investment company site talking about prepaid shortfalls. hmmm...

Well, I didn't expect any truth, but was a bit surprised at the various shades lies can take, the twisted little charts & graphs meant to reassure mathematically challenged citizens, the sins of omission & spin control. Civil war cannot be mentioned (call it "competition for power & resources", americans LIKE competition).

A couple other highlights (for me): Abercrombie of Hawaii pointing out big oil interests run iraq, not us, not iraqis. Sherman of Calif postulating a hypothetical constitutional crisis wherein the CnC gives him an order in conflict with congress & getting the astounding answer from Petty that he would have to consult his lawyers. And Wexler of FL revealing other reports whose official #'s show the surge has failed by every criteria. He also said Petty & Crocky are an eerie echo of the same people (uniformed & civilian) who paraded into congress 4-yrs ago to sell a pack of lies.

All in all, a circus show, long on clowns and elephant bullshit, short on peanuts from the peanut gallery. ~~ D.K.

The country would have been better off and learned more of the truth by listening to ten recently returned "grunts" from Iraq than what we learned yesterday and today from the three star, oh, make that four star for his bravery in Iraq since January of this year, General who spouts Bushisms for continuing Halliburton contracts -- they'll all cry ("I do tears")over the dead bodies of those GI's who will die for BushCo before this nightmare is over.

And, let's count the number of times today that 9/11 is connected to Iraq by self-serving, patriotic politicians and pundits. Be afraid, be very afraid!

I am so sick of the LIES....and Propaganda...911 should have taught us ALL that LIVES matter .....more than OIL...or Other Obscure White Man Treasure...( sorry but let's call a spade a spade).....They were sitting at the Hearings ...spewing the Charts and Diagrams suposedly Measuring Suceess in Fucking OIL Revanues....What the Fuck...Ryan-I-am-a-tool-Crocker and Mr Betrayus certainly must have left their Souls Somewhere.....because the Hell they went and Measured did not Sober Their Souls...and the Blood in the Sand did not get measured....nor the Heartaches of Mothers fleeing Baghdad in the Middle of Night.....I guess when you have that Many Ribbons and Effin Ribbons you don't need a Soul....

As Seantor Byrd said" This is just Another Fancy Sales Job".....bless him...

Sorry Dada...your post was good...and solid and Truthful....and I am grateful for that...since there is not enough Truth .....the quiet enigma- a good Quaker Buddhist is going to go find some dishes to smash....( to make a big Effin Peace Sign Mosiac)
