Sadly, it's been reported....

Three and a half weeks ago, seven U.S. soldiers recorded a piece in the NY Times entitled, "The War as We Saw It." It was critical of the Bush administration's endless positive Iraq spin.

As now sadly noted on dailykos, two of those seven soldiers, Yance T. Gray and Omar Mora, have been killed in a vehicle accident in Iraq.

You know, this morning I changed the title of this little entry. "Two down and five to go?" showed how desperate I'm getting, resorting to conspiracies against our own troops.

Yes, it's difficult to learn of two more gone with far greater courage for the truth than those who lead them.

In this morning's paper there was a follow-up article on the death of one of these two soldiers. The mother of Omar Mora wants an explanation by the army how a single vehicle accident could kill so many soldiers (7) and injure so many others (12).

"I want to know all the details of how he died. I want to know the truth," his mother said.

Indeed, "truth" is the least all soldiers involved are owed.

Dada, in that same article, it pointed out that Omar Mora was planning on applying for citizenship when he returned home. In other words, he was one of the foreign nationals (Mexican) who is fighting this war for the US. He'll now be eligible for automatic citizenship as he had died for "his country."

Is there an element of Pat Tillman's story here? It's been reported that he was opposed to the BushCo Iraq war. Is there a conspircy here? And, like you, I'm not very open to conspiracy theories; yet, I wonder.

I don't like how on the TV news today, when they talk to the families, they feel compelled to say what good patriotic americans they were. Like I guess they might've deserved this if they weren't. Like writing a truthful opinion from the front might be perceived as unpatriotic. ~~ D.K.

d.k. and eprof -- precisely. My first thought after hearing of the deaths of these two (and the other
"incidentals" who died with them) was of Pat Tillman.

Mrs. Dada tells me there was a story on NPR this morning. While not involving conspiracy (whoops, that's not to imply this is--see my earlier disclaimer comment above), it was of a Canadian citizen recently killed in Iraq.

Recruiters promised him citizenship, but they couldn't deliver. But fortunately for the young man, he was killed fighting for us in Iraq and will now likely be bestowed citizenship with all the benefits each of us enjoys. The ultimate, of course, being fighting and dying for us; for nothing.

Anyone know what the climate's like in Iceland?

Are you talking POLITICAL climate in Iceland? Cuz I'm pretty sure the name of the country gives away the weather (though neighboring Greenland seems to have been named by a realtor). Ever consider Switzerland? ~~ D.K.
