Today's quote by Susan and Dada

Wiser capitalists remember the French Revolution. Those who take too much can lose their heads. Less wise capitalists don't. May they soon lose that part of their anatomies with the faulty memories. ~Susan Rosenthal and Dada

Susan Rosenthal, over on her website "Susan's Blog" has begun an excellent series entitled "America in Crisis Part I: Class Conflict"

As a result of her blog, I was inspired to co-author the above quote with her. (Dada doesn't think it necessary to delineate who wrote which part.)

A day or so ago I saw a story on proposed healthcare reform for Americans. (It may have been Hillary's, I honestly don't remember.) But one of the critiques of the proposal was the ever more tedious "it sounds European and socialist! " (Ooh, did that word make us all recoil?)

Rosenthal makes the point that both Republicans and Democrats want to preserve the capitalistic system we now "enjoy."

"Liberals and liberal institutions condemn the worst aspects of capitalism in order to preserve the system as a whole.

"Most Americans want more investment in the nation’s infrastructure. They want universal healthcare and more funding for schools. They want New Orleans rebuilt and their bridges secure. Liberals know that, unless the system can deliver on some level, the majority will eventually reject that system."

In other words, throw us a few crumbs to keep our grumbling down seems to be their strategy. And while Rosenthal doesn't say it, Dada believes conservatives (with the power) have become so corrupted, so blatantly greedy, their approach to preserving capitalism seems to be seize the very last of the wealth while stealing our rights and keeping us fearful of the consequences should we challenge the bastards.

No, Rosenthal didn't say that in her blog--in so many words--but maybe we should have co-authored her article after the above "co-authored" quote which worked so well.

I agree.

The capitalist class "have become so corrupted, so blatantly greedy, their approach to preserving capitalism seems to be seize the very last of the wealth while stealing our rights and keeping us fearful of the consequences should we challenge the bastards."

I discuss this problem (and the solution) more fully in my book, POWER and Powerlessness.
