Even before I could drive, I would always anticipate this time of year when the new car models would make their debuts. The Fifties were especially fun and I still remember the thrill of the first Ford T-birds and Chevy Corvettes in mid-decade.
For those equally enthralled by the heyday of the American automobile, there comes a real nostalgia piece called the Chevy 789. Based on those great GM Chevys of the last half of the Fifties, the "789 looks instantly iconic because it is a melding of 1957, 1958 and 1959 Chevys" according to N2A Motors, its creator.
Only 100 of these are planned. But what an interesting post-peak oil tribute to a time when U.S. oil production was still capable of surpassing public demand.

well, I didn't know what to make of this, Dada. It kind of looked like an old t-bird to me, so I called in EK to view the pics (without benefit of the article). He scratched his head & said "it's a '59 chev rear, but WTH is the rest of it". I'm guessing that it goes front to rear, 57-58-59, that those little extra eyeball doohickies on the hood are 57? After reading about N2A, he wants to see them do something similar with Corvettes. He had a white one when we first met & I don't think he's ever truly forgiven me for encouraging trading it in for a BMW. But honestly, his corvette was a '74, well past Corvette heyday. Thanks for driving us down memory lane. ~~ D.K.
Looks interesting. So did the prowler.
Agitprop had some pics and post about plans for a new packard, Bugati, and Duesenberg
