Well, thankfully, it's over. Republican senator Larry Craig of Idaho, who is not gay--nor has he ever been gay--has taken the advice of his peers and resigned. Well not exactly.
They'd hoped he leave immediately. No, Craig set his final day as September 30th, leaving his republican co-workers in the senate and republicans across the nation cringing for another 30 days.
Mrs. Dada has suggested the reason for his leisurely departure is his desire to get in another year's service credit by staying until the end of the fiscal year. Or, or maybe it's his need to assure his health insurance transits smoothly into his "voluntary" retirement. (Mrs. Dada may be showing naïveté, I don't know, thinking as we lower class Americans do that our elite representatives are subject to the same rules of health insurance coverage as we plebs. )
Whatever the reason, I think it appropriate over the next month or so, wherever two or more of us simpaticos gather, we celebrate senator Craig's wise decision to retire with a few bars from that old Tony Orlando and Dawn Knock Three Times, to wit:
Hey guy what ya doin' in there
Sitting alone in your lonely stall while I'm beside you?
I can hear your music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
Right next to me you don't even know me
I love you
Oh, my sweet guy
Knock three times on the stall wall if you want me
Twice on the pipe if the answer is no
Oh, my sweetness (knock, knock, knock)
Means you'll meet me in my stall, hey!
Twice on the pipe means you can't cause you're workin'!

Yes in Congress you get to give yourself raises, and fire yourself at your convenience. Is this Craig's mugshot at the station? I have to admire the American flag lapel pin!
I'm starting to wonder if the American flag lapel pin is some kind of secret gay politicians club symbol???
I did catch a photo of the wife with a heavy scowl.
Enough to drive a guy into being gay!
Why do these criminal get to keep their fat benefits packages? I guess they figure if it was good enough for Nixon, it's good enough for them.
What is that sound I hear?
Politician crooks laughing all the way to the bank.
I love the song...I have been humiing "Cruisin" all week- but this is better...
Now about Craig- MrWide Stance...I don't know how it is over- I have a niggling feeling that it is not..I think it is only just starting ....the Repukes threw him under the bus- way tooo fast...so ? hmm Pages? what?
great pithy post.....
Good point about the American Flag, gd. It seems more often than not those who feel compelled to adverstise the flag are those who wrap themselves in it as a signal to us traitorous bastards who wear our patriotism less blatantly that they're the *true Americans*...I suppose it's another form of nixing rights for gays during working hours to we the unrighteous or something.
I think hypocrisy is least understood by those worst afflicted.
And, yes, e4e, this one really slid under the bus quickly. I'm sure there are some very uneasy folks right now, hence, the "get rid of the body fast" response as you suspect.
He may not be gay, but is he bisexual?
Yes, I had wondered the same thing. How about just "straight with occasional deviations"?
I lived and worked in Seattle for many years and also was an AIDS nurse for many years, and most of my friends and neighbors were gay....I have to say this, Cruisin' Mens Rooms is NOT part of ANY Normal Gay Lifestyle...it is a Deviant Lifestyle...it is very dangerous and impulse driven and crosses the line of ALL Risky behavior....it is about no impulse control, and it is is not even about sexual urges., it is about anonymous sex, yet they don;t even want to see their partners....and it is also often associated with older married men that are seeking sexual gratification and they prefer young/younger males....AND the bathrooms where this is an acitivity are WELLKNOWN...almost marked if you will, and yes, there are explicit hand signals...and yes, I learned about this, in great detail from Dying AIDS patients filled with regret and remorse..and yes, guilt....
This is a sickness, it is not about gay or bisexual lifestyle...
The whisperings in Utah (which contains the pioneer roots of many Idahoans) imply Sen Craig is on the verge of, or possibly in the midst of, an emotional and mental collapse.
Oh, of course! How else to explain such a fine upstanding life-long rabid homo-hating repuke "suddenly" pleading guilty to picking up toilet paper on the slimy floor of an airport men's room (with his bare hands, I might add, as in EEEUUUWWW). To admit the obvious is apparently just not possible. But you know, when your whole life is goddamned lie, how else to deal with reality?
Thanks for updating the song, Dada. Gosh, as a busy senator, I wonder how Craig ever found time to learn all those complicated signals? ~~ D.K.
