During yesterday's weekly peace demonstration in front of the federal courthouse downtown, Mrs. Dada struck up a conversation with a Palestinian gentleman. He's been in the U.S. for well over 20 years.
Curious of any personal repercussions he may have experienced after 9/11, Mrs. Dada got an idea of what it has been like to be a person of Middle Eastern descent living in the U.S. these past six years.
The thing I found funniest was his relating that sometime after 9/11, he was visited by the FBI. They came to his house. They wanted to know: "Do you know bin Laden?"
I remembered this is one of the agencies that immediately after 9/11, when all commercial air traffic had been shut down, allowed Saudi Arabians to fly out of the country before air travel was restored.
I was thinking this unassuming Palestinian man's response to the FBI should have been something like, "You're asking the wrong person. You need to ask the guy living across the Potomac River just east of Arlington, VA. It's on Pennsylvania. You can't miss it. It's the really big white house."
