The president's birthday message to the nation.

July 4, 2007

In a Fourth of July speech in Virginia today, president Bush promised to stay the course in Iraq while reminding Americans victory in a nation which daily resembles more and more New Mexico's "City of Rocks" State Park that it will take "more patience, more courage and more sacrifice than even Big Dick cheney or I have."

That Bush "sacrifice" statement reminds me of the Shrek #1 movie. The King of Duloc says "I am sending my subjects to war, some of you will die, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make".

This was an animated comedy with an arrogant/ignorant king. Happiy, he ends up being eaten by a dragon. Suffice it to say , King Dubbya is not far off from this character. Where is a hungry dragon when you need one?

He never did answer Cindy Sheehan's question - What IS the noble cause?

Two excellent comments here. GD - thanks for sharing the Shrek quote. It sounds like the exact translation of W's Fourth of July message to us all.

And e4e, I think "sacrifice" is a word Bush has learned from his "subjects" but never experienced himself, so it's a rather abstract concept for him, yet he likes to use it. I guess because, for him, it's something unattainable.

Hope you all had nice Fourths also. (BTW, we didn't burn a flag, i.e., we decided not to barbeque, thus saving it for when a more public venue when all become extremely disenchanted to the point of the Second American Revolution. (Yeh, right. That's one safe flag!)
