We're all so fucking honorable!

A seventeen year old out for a night with his buddies runs into a 7-11 and runs back out with a 1/2 case of Coors. He knows that he may get caught and, if so, punished. But, hey, it's just 12 cans of beer. A bit further up the ladder, in the mall parking lot while you're inside shopping at Sears, a car parks next to yours. In a matter of a minute or two it takes to remove it, your catalytic converter containing a bit of precious metal is gone. These exhaust system surgeons--if good--know there is less chance of being caught than the beer runners. Yet they realize the risk they run if they are.

Mrs. Dada has made a career in education so, if anything, she feels she knows something about children. And she believes deep in her heart that despite the fact adults don't think kids pay much attention to what's going on "in the real world," kids are very much aware. And that's why I'm not optimistic for this country. Because our kids, who live under the "fine" examples being set for them in the adult world, see the crimes being committed by their role models of that world. Sadly the difference, however, is a catalytic converter can get you hard time incarceration while dismantling the United States and killing over half a million innocent folks and dispossessing a couple million more in Iraq is so obscenely over-the-edge it goes unpunished!

Anyone still reading this and planning to become a secretary has to know the proper forms of addressing correspondence to our publicly elected government officials. In brief, all elected officials save for the president and vice president are addressed as "honorable" as in: "The Honorable Duke Cunningham, United States House of Representatives, Washington, D.C." This goes for former presidents of the U.S. but never a standing president or his veep who are simply addressed as "The President" or "The Vice President."

I never understood why that was. But back to those kids on a Saturday night beer run: If you steal a six-pack or two, odds are good you'll do some lock down time. Otherwise, the best way to avoid that is if YOU sign the fucking laws that can send your ass to prison for stealing beer but YOU scribble a statement in the margins of that law exempting YOU from it. Or if you are the "Big Dick" cheney, you could just refuse to turn your papers over to the National Archives (which as we are reminded by William Rivers Pitt are the American people's fucking papers and it's the god damned law cheney do so!) by proclaiming yourself outside the Executive Branch, hence, above the law. (Maybe that helps explain when sending correspondence to Bush or Big Dick cheney, you never ever address them as "honorable"?)

It's time we returned to being a nation of laws. Big Dick's latest and most blatant extra-legal affair ought to have us witnessing his physical removal from office, dragged off to prison in chains. But that's not going to happen, just as we were told repeatedly by our "honorable" house speaker Nancy Pelosi impeachment is off the table, thus enabling Bush and Cheney to make all the beer runs and catalytic converter thefts they damn well please because "we aren't gonna do a fuckin' thing to you."

We are no longer a nation of laws.

I don't give a rat's ass if our congress doesn't have the numbers to successfully convict these leeches through an impeachment process. To not at least uphold the law and impeach the bastards as law necessitates is to concede the nation to criminals. I curiously await the judgment of history upon these honorable people who have ceded the nation to Bush and Big Dick.

Finally, we are now hearing rumors Big Dick's health may be an easy way out for him; to resign this summer because of his heart (I know, I know, I was surprised to learn he has one too) or a potentially dangerous blood clot buried deep in his leg. But so far as I know, while it may not be Bethesda or Walter Reed, they still offer medical care for prison inmates.

But that, of course, assumes we're a nation of laws, doesn't it?

laws you say?

ok good point

however i'd like to add
one word to that
'reasonable' laws

not the made-up bullshit kind of laws they've been creating lately...like corporations have legal rights like a person? huh, come one now -- that's absurd!

Dada, wasn't it Marc Anthony who sarcastically said of Caesar's murderers, "they are all honorable men"? I'm gonna have to whip out the Bard & check. I think if you substitute "our constitution" for "Caesar", it might be a good eulogy for the death of "Rule of Law" we are witnessing.

AZ, when a corp can feel pain or regret, serve jailtime, or fry in the electric chair, I will be willing to grant them a legal body. Until then, I look to the human bodies of their Boards of Directors, Corp Officers and major Stockholders to pay for corp crimes. I may be looking in vain (sigh). ~~ D.K.

Nation of laws...wow...now there's a concept...I reallly appreciate that you even remember that we have laws- or is HAD laws...Now how do we get the "leaders" and "elected"to Remember?

These are dark times...Our Govt is susposed to be run based on Laws not run by Men- isn't that what the framers hoped and prayed for ????

Here here! I agree that the process of Impeachment should proceed regardless of having the number of votes to make it stick. Let's just put it in the record that some people in this country had noticed the meltdown of the legal processes, and the lawless trainwreck Bush administration's fatal folly. Perhaps it was best stated in a recent photos of someone at a rally with a sign that read: "Would someone please give Bush a blow job so we can Impeach him"... apparently, that is what it takes in the 21st Century.

g.d. - I'd like to agree with you re 21st Century requisites to impeach leaders of the regime, but a blow job was a heinous act of the 20th century that caused the needless deaths of thousands of American GI's and bankrupted the nation which necessitated those "honorable" men and women of our congress to "do the right thing" and impeach that sumbitch Clinton. After all, Ken Starr couldn't get him on Whitewater or for murdering Vince Foster. Oh, and then there was that other reason they so relentlessly pursued Clinton's ass - he was a "democratic" president (centrist "liberal") in republican world.

Thank god the "liberal media" jumped to C's defense by showing us that Clinton Lewinski embrace no less than 27,314 times....

(minutes later) Okay, better now. I just wanted to note here that after posting above comment, I went to Answers.com to ascertain I had spelled (Vince) "Foster" correctly. (Actually to verify I wasn't confusing him with former local basketball player turned pro now retired, Greg Foster--but I digress.)

Anyway, while at Answers.com, I read the following re V. Foster:
"found dead in a Virginia park outside of Washington D.C. a day prior to announcing his resignation as White House Deputy Counsel"

Spooky, huh? Just as with the death of Hillary Clinton by congress in '93, Prez Clinton's impeachment, those democrats don't go away easily, huh? (I suppose that helps to explain another possible Clinton in our future?)

"Whoa, sorry, let me go deep breathe while wiping the foam off my mouth, sorry" (again)

Dada, great post. I particularly liked the reference to your wife teaching and how her students are soaking up all these messages from the liar in chief and how he and dick can live outside the law. So, what can we expect in the next generation: another GWB and DC. That's so depressing!

I'm just hoping the next generation will learn a whole lot from the mistakes of this one. To quote Bill Clinton, "I feel your pain". I really do and I feel the frustration too. We grew up playing by the rules and now we see people who totally ignore the rules. Sure as hell it makes us mad. It should.

Oh, to all you wonderful people who take a moment or two to post comments herein, I really appreciate it. I think we're all in pain but, in some small but very important ways, it helps to know I'm hurting with the small group who reads this, posts comments; hurting along with millions of others that are a majority of Americans too. But what to do, what to do?

Certainly this little group here gives me tremendous resilience to come back tomorrow and the next day, to bitch again, with renewed hope if, only in my dreams, there will be some "jestice" down the road for these amazing leaders of ours (to include many, many in our congress...some who, incredibly, are beginning to just now acheive "enlightenment"...
incredible, just incredible to imagine they qualify to formulate policy for this nation........

but I'm babbling now...so thanks everyone, and keep the faith.
