A month or so ago while Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' ass was being held to the fire by congress, I joked about it. I compared Gonzales to George Costanza in an old Seinfeld episode. It's the one where George Costanza is fired because of his incompetence, but he doesn't leave. He keeps coming back despite his employer's efforts to keep him out of his office; first by disconnecting his phone lines, then taking his keys and, finally, boarding up his office making it impossible for Costanza to access it.
But none of those efforts succeeded. George Costanza, despite all of that, still managed to get into his sealed up, inaccessible-to-the-outside-world office by climbing through a ventilation duct.
Now we see the same thing happening with Alberto Gonzales, with the aid of his long time Texas buddy and accomplice, George Bush. And despite the best efforts of Gonzales' employer--the American people--to get his ass out of the building, they're totally unable to do so. This behind the words of Bush affirming such attempts by the senate as "purely political."
Sadly, this is no Seinfeld and this is no fucking joke. This is a prime example of how far the United States has sunk. Other examples pop up weekly but, rather than evoke outrage by the media, they are discussed briefly in passing--if at all!--without any hint of just how outrageous the actions of these white house leeches are or how they are sucking the life blood from this nation.
So, did you hear over Fox or CNN this weekend about efforts to block public access to the secret service's list of visitor's to the white house by Bush's 'Top Dick" to ensure "the president and vice president receive candid advice to carry out their duties?" Of course you didn't.
Sometimes those lists are protected under the guise they are a matter of "national security." Under the Bush administration, more than any other in the history of this nation, protecting "national security" is code for "protecting my ass." For if the nation really paid attention, really gave a shit, there'd be riots in the streets demanding removal of these bastards who consider themselves above the law. But not to worry. That's because we really don't give a shit.
And that's where George Costanza, aka Alberto Gonzales, comes in. For rather than serving as the highest, most prominent officer in the nation overseeing and enforcing the law for his employer, the American people, we have an attorney general assisting our nation's criminal leadership evade those laws by Gonzales' justice department filing documents challenging the public's right to access Secret Service records of who visits Bush and Big Dick.
As should be obvious to all of us by now, Alberto Gonzales--like George Costanza, has the schematics to the building. He knows where the air ducts are. He's not going anywhere. You can board up the doors to his damn office, but he'll still get in. And that's exactly as Bush likes it. Exactly as Bush needs it, i.e., with his long time buddy and accomplice interpreting the law to protect "national security."

Bush dismissing it as "political" is such a joke. EVERYTHING, every single thing, his adm does is political ... but he has the nerve to shrug his shoulders & roll his eyes & fling the "political" epithet when the opposition party (such as it is) has the nerve to oppose him!
I do think the pressure might be getting to him. He can't get rid of Gonzo cuz that would open up Justice to oversight (jeez, these opposition party maneuvers are such a pain). Maybe that's why he had flop-sweat on his upper lip in Germany last week. Couldn't have been beer foam since he's a dry drunk.
Dada, now that you bring it up, I wonder if a glorious impeachment day should ever arrive (even if only in my dreams), if GWB himself would be sneaking around in the WH airducts. He's kind of hampered by not knowing how to read a schematic, but maybe if his whole cabinet accompanies him? Tough fit for Big Dick, even the commercial-size ducts. Gonzo could push him from behind, he's used to having his head there anyway. ~~ D.K.
Your use of Seinfeld to illustrate the frustration re: the AG's staying power in office is well done and right on target. You're other point about how the American public doesn't get the whole political scene is even more frustrating. If the press won't do there job, how does a private citizen know what's going on that really matters. I'll bet Shrubco loves it when we are saturated with the Paris Hilton, et al, news 24/7 as it keeps them out of the spotlight, as weak as it is.
Excellent post this morning.
great post -- the only thing, sadly, that the American public cares about is who's lost in LOST and who won survivor..the outcome of reality tv is more important THAN reality..sigh
What was the nickname george'd gym teacher call him......
Can't Stand Ya
time to give the torture boy an atomic wedgie
Deke: I started chuckling before reaching the very end (no pun intended) re Gonzo pushing Bush through the duct work, anticipating where you were going with that. And it would an easy push, wouldn't it, what with his head so deeply embedded up Bush's ass end. Poor Gonzo, it must be crowded in there, with Lieberman's head in there too.
eprof2: Thanks for the kind words. A little appreciation goes a long ways. (What's that they say? "Don't encourage him, don't encourage him! It'll only make things worse." ~g)
az: My sentiments exactly. Oh wait, you forgot Paris. What's up with her? Didn't she, after just three days in the slammer, do like Bush did one day in the bottom of a bottle, i.e., found Jesus in there or something? Poor Britney. Wonder if she's pissed, being pushed out of the limelight by that Paris chick? "War? What war with Iran?"
psycho: Thanks for refreshing my memory re Costanza, "Can't Stand Ya" and the atomic wedgies. In fact, in the past day or two I saw a reference to the atomic wedgie as pertains to Paris Hilton, her needing one, and I'm amazed that the Native Americans were so far ahead of us in recognizing that, in The Web of Life, everything's connected...Gonzo, Costanza, Hilton, Bush, Jesus, the Web of Life, the duct work of the white house...it's all sooo *COSMIC* man!
I'd just like to add that locally the Gonzo, Costanza "won't leave, can't make me!" syndrome is playing out in our county politics.
A local Bush presidential appointee has been ID'ed to the FBI as the "bag man" in a scheme illicitly soliciting funds and contributions. There are a total of SIXTEEN other as yet uncharged co-conspirators. In older times, we could end up with little or no county government which, as most suspect would probably be the best thing for everyone.
But these are the Gonzo-Costanzas born with mutant decency genes because when asked by a board member to step down, he refused. Same with a county commissioner when in a public meeting this week became very irate when it was suggested by a constituent he resign.
"Won't do it, can't make me!"
