This is pretty incredible. Just yesterday Enigma4ever over at Watergate Summer returned to her blog after more than four months absence. Being redheaded, she has reappeared in the form of Flaming June, a sensuous redhead as painted by Lord Frederick Leighton.
Then in this afternoon's mail there arrived a postcard from the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec. It was from a high school chum traveling in France. It contained these two images by Lautrec. I was struck by the fact of the seven women depicted in these two works, six of them are redheads!
I don't know if this part of some synchronicity, red was the tricolor of vogue in women's hair at the turn of nineteenth century France or just a meaningless chance thing but I thought, as rare as such lovely shaded coiffures are, it might be worthy of mention. Maybe those so endowed are presently at the forefront attention of the Fates.
Certainly, however, an e-mail this morning from a regular commenter here at Dada's (who just happens to be redheaded) only serves to accentuate the "chance" of this all . She reported being in extreme discomfort and pain. Seems she broke her little toe last night and is now suffering for it. So "anonymous, " if you happen to read this, we all hope you are feeling better (or the drugs have really kicked in by now).
And on the chance anyone out there reading this is a redhead, please, please be careful.

I think painters like to "create" redheads just for the add'l color (like titian red?). I've noticed TV commercials like to do the same. The lovely Maureen O'Hara says Louis Mayer told her "techni-color was created just for you".
These postcards are gorgeous, but beware: there's a study that redheads tend to be seen in threes (similar to the bad luck adage). The study may be skewed since it was conducted in Scotland which has more redheads than any other country. Strangely, they attribute that to Viking influence rather than indigenous gaelic genes.
ps, drugs are OK, but you really should refrain from using the phrase "kicked in" to a broken-toe person. Just Sayin' ~~ D.K.
Oh D.K., I'm so sorry in my insensitive choice of words. Of course, whatever was I thinking.
Be extremely careful NOT to snag that pinky toe dressing. I know, the couple of times I did resulted in scaring my wife to death - (the blood curdling screams!).
Also, I discovered the first one's always the hardest, i.e., it took the longest time for me to break it, but the subsequent ones came easier and more frequently. (Of course, they weren't all 'breaks', but memory of the first one made the way I fall down a lot quicker now....I even start cursing/screaming now before assessing how really bad it is.
BTW, r u going to have a cast signing party? (Seriously, hope the meds are helping.)
Ahhhh, so Something about THREES?...hmmmm, whelp ...the 3rd Redhead has now arrived....so funny...
These cards are so beautiful..I just had an online talk with ANON P., he too is a Redhead fan and I explained to him that for me and I think DK it is just such a wonder to stumble across great painters that LOVE redheads and paint them so that they are luscious and ALIVE ....when you grow up ( and older) as a Red many see us as Anemic Wallflowers ( I am serious)....so when someone gives us such love on the canvas - well- it is indeed a thrill and now you have been given such a dose.....
and through the Blog I am starting to see that People and Men do even appreciate us ....sigh...what a lovely thing to find out after all these years....
( and yeah, I confess I would gladly have laid about in a silk nighty for the great Lord Frederick Leighton to paint...what the hell...now for a secret....My Great Aunt May - the one that lived in the Brownstone in Downtown Baltimore during the 60's Riots- I blogged about her and the Lincoln photos by her dad....she was a singer& actress in the Victorian Era, and yes, Vaudeville, and yes, she posed for some Painters....and yes, she was a coppery Redhead....)
Thank you for loving the Fire in the Redheads....
Now DK....my fellow Twisted Toe Sister....please be good and take care of that little Piggy...and take your meds and let it heal...and don't squish it in any shoes...let it heal....
E, your Aunt May was amazing. I remember your blog about her. Yes, it sure is nice to find painters that do redheads as real women & not little lost waifs. The one thing I hated most as girl was the nicknames. For some reason, "Pinky" was particularly loathsome, to the point that I would even cry thinking I must look like some kind of fetal larval humanoid.
dada, are you saying now that I've broken one toe, the others will follow? I REALLY cannot face that thought! But I do identify with the blood curdling scream, after I could even resume breathing, that is. No cast though, so no cast signing. No way to really even splint the little bitch! ~~ D.K.
Hey there Dada....DK sent me a new lovely to post on the Blog- she will indeed melt your heart....better come visit her....Good to see you blogging with such gusto...
