During yesterday's anniversary of September 11th, President Bush used the unhinged door from a fire truck that responded to the World Trade Center bombings as a metaphor for the state of the nation five years afterwards.
“The safety of America depends on the outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad.”
Holy shit! If the president truly believes the nation's future is being determined on Baghdad streets, then I'm sure millions of Americans were shocked to learn of the dire state of the nation. And with their fear levels increased exponentially as a result, I'm sure these folks will now decide to vote for the only party that can keep them safe; the party which equates their security with what's goin' down on the streets of Baghdad.
I know George Bush doesn't recognize failure. That's because, in all his life, he's never experienced it despite the trail he's left. But I would suggest to the president this is one colossal fiasco that's going to rest squarely on his shoulders. That's because Iraq's a far bigger mess than even Pappy Bush or his monied buddies can bail "junior" out of this time, no matter how many times or ways ABC's neocons rewrite this history.

In a non-political, pre-election, 9/11 anniverary speech to the nation yesterday, President Bush reminded us of the extreme peril we're all facing:“The safety of America depends on the outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad.”
