If Americans have become lackadaisical about the terrorists getting us, I think we should also recognize the apathy of republicans as evidenced by Newt Gringrich's remark re Joe Lieberman's Connecticut senatorial primary loss Tuesday. Gringrich rued if the news of the terrorist plot to blow airplanes out of the sky had broken a day or two earlier, Lieberman would probably have won this primary for reelection to his senate seat.
Evidence the republican's had become reactive instead of proactive? I think so. Red alerts can be declared anytime by the president. Raising it to red as he did on Wednesday, it appears Bush was a couple days too late to help Lieberman. So the Connecticut primary may have shaken republicans towards becoming proactive once more and Americans scared shitless again.
Fear not, democrats. If Lieberman was such a loyal democrat as he repeatedly liked to remind us all, why is it the republicans are the ones in such a tizzy he lost?
Trust me, neocons are going to make hay with this latest real, or imagined, terrorist plot. On every TV news screen last evening, we saw huge lines of travelers, some missing their flights, conceding while such measures are a major inconvenience, they're a good thing. It's already working. Never mind that 32 major airports last month missed fake guns, bombs and other weapons over 40% of the time. And our port security is even more atrocious.
Wake up America! It's election time again. As vice president Cheney was quick to remind us after the Connecticut primary Tuesday, "Senator Lieberman's loss is good for Al Qaeda." I would suggest it's also good for the republicans. Some of us recognize how complimentary the two are -- a match made in heaven.
So it's that time again fellow citizens. Time to cough over a little more convenience and freedom for some renewed fear and faux security. Contributions toward the re-election of our republican government comes in many forms. Why, in lieu of cash, they'll gladly accept your hair gels and after shaves.

i gotta trip to make this weekend...and even without the airline problems, i contemplated flying an hour VS driving 7..
but i decided to drive my bio-fueled jetta
better on my nerves, geat scenery (going to albuquerque) and saving our environment one trip at a time..
what's interesting to me about this whole red alert scare is that most colleges start this month - making the bulk of the travelers college kids or business
why would he do that???
Gah! Cheney thinks Al Qaeda loves Ned Lamont? As I've said before, Cheney's been taking too many hits off the BP pipe leak. Send him & Bush & Co to detox (i.e. impeach & imprison).
AZ, when I lived in San Diego, we regularly DROVE the busy fwys 6-hrs to Vegas to visit my parents rather than fly for 45-minutes. When you factor in the 1-hr drive to airport, the 2-hr wait at airport, then 1-hr to rent a car at your destination, it simply makes sense. Not to mention not having to deal with being crammed in the cattle car, my knees up around the guy in front of me's head! And you have bio-fuel ... enjoy the trip!!!
As far as this red-alert specifically affecting airflight, well I've been thinking the airlines are in financial trouble again & need another big federal handout & that's maybe ONE more reason ... we're being prepped for another big money grab.
Dada, are my eyes totally kakooey, or did I glimpse a rainbow here last night & now it's gone? D.K.
az: Think of it as just another mean frat prank. That's easier to swallow than a couple of the other alternatives.
dk: Yes, you glimpsed a rainbow here last night. It was here again briefly this morning. But, WFT?! As I was uploading today's blog, something went very wrong. It's never happened before, but that whole blog entry just disappeared.
I tried my darndest to recover it everyway I knew how, but no luck. Well, I'm going to repost it, but to do so, I'll have to rewrite it.
Damn, I hate having to repeat myself.
Hope your backs better.
Oh, and az, have a great trip to Alb.,NM. I think it's a town with many redeeming qualitites (that I haven't learned to appreciate yet because I've not spent much time there.)
Anyway, enjoy that biodiesel jetta.
dk: I try not to fly anymore. It's just the pulling out of line, being escorted to a side room, the stripping down and searching private parts to see if I'm concealing toothpaste somewhere on my body that I find a wee bit inconvenient.
I was surprised to discover when checking with my airline that I'd lost over 80,000 frequent flyer miles because I hadn't used 'em in three years. (Since 9/11, actually)
And honestly, I find the inside of an airplane very claustrophobic. I'm glad I don't suffer from claustrophobia. So truthfully, I could relate to your feelings of same. However, I've never experienced those same feelings about such confinements in such a prurient manner.
Thanks for the extremely ah, er, well--you know--extremely whatever description! (grin!)
haha, dada, i neglected to say my knees only came in contact with the guy's head in front of me when reclined his seat! Altho' it may be purient (on his part) cuz he kept his seat all the way back through the whole flight, totally ignoring my remarks about bruised knees, the brute. This was on a flight to Portugal & I'm not sure he understood english slang. I blame the stewardess for seating a tall guy in front of a long-legged woman. D.K.
totally rude post over at my blog...come enjoy...
