Bush spoke at the U.N. today. I loved his admonitions to member states. The president expressed:
- Concern for children globally, although Bush has killed 40,000 kids in Iraq.
- Concern for poverty globally, except in those areas where it encompasses poor people, like New Orleans.
- Concern about AIDS, except in those nations that practice family planning, contraception and/or abortions, of course.

C'mon let's hear it for W. Didn't he take responsibility for the poor federal response to Katrina? Why, that's just as meaningful as Rummy taking responsibility for Abu Graib: no consequences, and therefore, meaningless.
No concern for poverty? Quit belly aching. Didn't he suspend the minimum wage requirement for federal contractors? That way, poor people in New Orleans can get jobs at below poverty level wages, which will translate into a trickle down of prosperity from the contractors to the victims. And even if this takes a while, didn't mama Bush thoughfully point out that things are working out well, since the disaster victims are underprivileged anyway?
What do the swift boat types have to say now?
